SOUTHINGTON — The Town will be holding ahurricane a hurricane preparedness drill on Sept. 11 and areasking residents to help out, according to a statement frompolice.
If a severe hurricane hits southern New England, firstresponders and the Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT) may needto run a real dispensing station to dispense food, water, and otheremergency supplies to help local victims.
A distribution center will be set up at St. Thomas School, 133Bristol St. so local agencies can practice running such astation.
Residents are asked to drive through the station between 10 a.m.and noon to help the town test its readiness in the event of asevere hurricane. Drivers who participate will receive coupons fromlocal vendors as a thank you.
The drill will be coordinated by several town agencies includingthe police department, health department, fire department, CERT,Bozzuto’s Inc, Southington Water Department and Duie Pyle TruckingCo.
