A NYPD chopper had to make an emergency water landing. there were six officers on the helicopter when it landed after what is thought to be some type of mechanical failure.
Rough Landing Bangs Up NYPD Chopper during Emergency Landing
The chopper’s emergency landing was rough. it actually caused a snapped rotor and a dented windshield. Thankfully everybody on board the chopper escaped serious harm during the unexpected touchdown on water. the three-member flight crew, a trainee and two scuba divers on the helicopter were treated for minor cuts along with back and neck injuries.
The chopper was approaching an NYPD air field near Jamaica Bay in Brooklyn when it had to land. the crew was able to deploy the flotation devices, and then they touched down about 30 yards from the shore. the crew was rescued by a harbor unit and two private boats. Luckily, the aircraft did not tip over during the water landing.
What a scare! Thankfully the crew was able to follow the emergency procedures during the landing, and they were able to keep everybody safe during the difficult time. it is wonderful news that nobody on the water was injured either. Officials are still investigating the incident. this could have been much worse. the chopper was clearing the airspace for the President.
